London an interesting place

May Tenth, 2012

Today we started off at 8:30 in the morning and got on the tube heading towards Buckingham Palace.  While we were in the area we stopped at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and met with Summer who gave us a tour of the library.  She helped us with becoming student members and accessing the library.  After RICS we went next door to the Institute of Civil Engineers.  We were given a tour of the entire building and a history of it, after we ate downstairs in a cafe and ate rice and curry with lamb.  In the middle of all this there was a huge protest about the police here in London being cut by 20%.  This march lasted a good hour just where we were and had thousands of people marching in respect to the police force.

Later we went to Westminster Abbey and were given listening devices so we basically had a tour guide.  After the great history lesson in the Abbey we went across the Thames river and saw the Eye and walked to Tate Modern.  After walking all day we finally made it to our last stop which was the Gherkin, a giant egg shaped skyscraper which was in the main business district of London.

Throughout the day we walked by many construction job sites and saw the types of job site trailers and safety implementations that they use here in the United Kingdom
