Barcelona and "La Ramblas"

May Seventeen, 2012 -

Today started early for everyone once again, but the hotel here in Barcelona does not have as good of a breakfast as the Mentone Hotel in London.  After a very quick bite we left for the Metro, which helped lead us to the Park Güell. The Park Güell is one of Barcelona’s most famous parks located at the edge of the urban city. Our group hiked up to the top of the park to enjoy the gorgeous views from the scenic vista.  From the top of the park you could literally see most of Barcelona and the ocean beyond it.  It was a little foggy, but the views were amazing.  After the park we went to the Picasso Museum and saw many of his interesting pieces of art.  Some of the pictures were quite amazing, but some of the others were not my favorite.  After viewing mostly his work I was able to truly appreciate the style of his artwork and think about why he did the pieces he did.

We had a little free time from about 2:00 to 6:00 that night.  During our free time we went to the beach and had some more Estrella and some freshly made mojitos from a local selling them on the beach.  We also went to the market St. Josep La Boqueria, which is the largest market like that in Europe.  It had everything from fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, candy, pizza, drinks, and gelato.  This was seriously a sight to see.

 These crabs were still moving.

After the market we took showers and got ready to go see the magical fountain of Montjuic at sunset so we could see the beautiful city and the amazing synchronization of the fountain and the music that was played with it.

After we left the fountains we rode the metro back to La Ramblas and walked around for a while until we went back to the hotel and just hung out to be rested for the next morning.

  1. The market was definitely a sight to see for sure. I didn’t walk down it with all of yall that time but a took a little gander down it one afternoon. By the looks of the pictures it looks like you really got to experience all of what the market has to offer; from fish, pizza, fruit, candy, etc. The market is for sure something you should experience because it shows the entire culture of Barcelona on one street.
